Mid-State to offer new Human Resources associate degree

A new Human Resources associate of applied science (AAS) degree will be offered this fall at Mid-State Technical College. Applications are now being accepted for the program.

Students in the Human Resources program will build a comprehensive skill set tailored to meet the demands of the modern human resources landscape. Graduates will acquire new skills in specialized areas crucial for effective HR management, including recruitment, hiring, training and development, employee records management, and compensation and benefits administration. The program also includes aspects of HR operations such as employment law, occupational safety and health, equal employment opportunity, wage management, healthcare administration, family leave policies and retirement plans. 

“An associate degree in human resources is increasingly becoming essential in today's competitive job market,” said Helen Linder, vice president of human resources at Boston Inc. dba Furniture & Appliance Mart, Ashley, Ashley Outlet. “I am very excited that Mid-State is now offering this opportunity in the central Wisconsin area as it serves as a stepping stone for those aspiring to pursue higher education or gain practical experience in HR roles, thus offering employers more value in future HR professionals in our area.”

Mid-State’s program offers a dynamic learning environment that goes beyond traditional classroom instruction. Students will engage in hands-on experiences and simulations to reinforce learning and prepare for real-world challenges. State-of-the-art facilities and technology-equipped classrooms provide the tools and resources needed to excel in the program and prepare for a successful career in HR. 

Students enrolling in the new Human Resources program will choose from in-person or fully virtual instruction. They will also have opportunities for active engagement with the business and human resources community as well as attend events and other experiences through the College’s LEAD Center.
