Mid-State Technical College hosted 13 high school students during its two sessions of HealthQuest: Nursing Exploration Camp. Students explored the role of a registered nurse at the June 10 and June 24 camps on the Wisconsin Rapids Campus.

Camp attendees participated in a variety of hands-on activities and simulations that demonstrate the nursing field. Students also visited Mid-State’s Healthcare Simulation Center at Aspirus Riverview Hospital and toured Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus.

“My favorite part about camp was going to Aspirus to see the Simulation Center,” said Max St. Myers, an incoming senior at Lincoln High School who is also a member of Mid-State’s Cougar Crew. “I didn’t realize how realistic the high-fidelity simulators are and was excited to see the real-life scenarios they are able to replicate.”

“HealthQuest equipped students with valuable insights into educational pathways,” said Deb Johnson-Schuh, Mid-State dean of the School of Nursing. “Participants learned about high school courses that can accelerate their progress towards a Nursing degree at Mid-State Technical College. This early exposure not only clarifies career goals but also prepares students for the rigors of higher education in the nursing field.”

“Mid-State's Nursing program offers unparalleled access to experiential learning and expert guidance,” added Johnson-Schuh. “Our program ensures aspiring nurses are well-prepared to embark on successful careers, which makes it a great choice for anyone interested in entering the healthcare field.”
