Mid-State Technical College to host Dr. Temple Grandin, autism and animal behavior expert
Mid-State Technical College will host prominent author and speaker on autism and animal behavior Dr. Temple Grandin on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The event will be held at the Sentry Theater in Stevens Point from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
All community members are invited to attend the free event. Advanced registration is recommended to secure your spot. On-site registration will be available if space allows.
At the event, Dr. Grandin will share her insights and research on autism and animal science. She will explore the diverse ways of thinking, address the stigmas surrounding autism and offer strategies for educators and peers to support students with autism.
Those wishing to learn more about Dr. Grandin before the event can attend a free movie screening of Temple Grandin, an inspiring Emmy Award winning film about her life. Movie screenings and discussions will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Mid-State’s Marshfield, Stevens Point Downtown and Wisconsin Rapids campuses. The movie showcases Dr. Grandin’s journey, including the challenges she faced and her innovative contributions to the field of animal science. Registration is not required for the movie screening.
Temple Grandin is currently a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and has a successful career consulting on both livestock handling equipment design and animal welfare. She has been featured on National Public Radio (NPR) and a BBC Special, “The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow.” She has also appeared on national TV shows such as Larry King Live, 20/20, Sixty Minutes and Fox and Friends, and she has a 2010 TED talk. Articles about Grandin have appeared in Time Magazine, New York Times, Discover Magazine, Forbes and USA Today. She was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016.
