Mid-State accepting applications to new Advanced Manufacturing Technology program

October 10, 2023

Applications are now being accepted for a highly anticipated new Advanced Manufacturing Technology associate degree program from Mid-State Technical College.

Students will begin classes in fall 2024 in the new program, which combines smart automation, robotics, IT cyber security and networking to maximize efficiency in manufacturing and industrial production. They will be among the first to train in Mid-State’s new Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology and Apprenticeship (AMETATM) Center upon its opening.

The Advanced Manufacturing Technology associate of applied science is the first step in a new career preparation pathway that provides hands-on training in advanced manufacturing and automation. While completing the program, students will earn SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) credentials, then have the ability to transfer up to 84 credits to UW-Stout’s Automation Leadership bachelor of science degree program.

The program provides a foundation in electromechanical and automation systems as well as advanced coursework in Industry 4.0 concepts and quality manufacturing, including the use of AI. Students will gain hands-on experience with tools and equipment used in the field as they learn to operate and program robotics, troubleshoot computer networks and interface digital logic circuits.

According to Dan Kinsella, vice president and owner of Pointe Precision in Plover, being able to hire graduates of the program will allow the company to continue to build a workforce driven on new technology and meet their customers’ ever-changing needs.

“We are excited to hear that Mid-State is launching the new Advanced Manufacturing Technology program,” Kinsella said. “Mid-State has done a great job collaborating with manufactures in our community to understand our needs when it comes to a highly skilled workforce, and this program caters to those needs.”

“We are excited to establish this new opportunity for our students and build our partnership with SACA and UW-Stout,” said Ryan Kawski, Mid-State’s dean of the School of Applied Technology. “This career pathway is a great example of how we are working with partners and getting creative to make it easier for people from all walks of life to prepare for great careers in advanced manufacturing. We look forward to providing local employers with skilled advanced manufacturing graduates from within our communities.”
