Work and Life Experience
You may be able to earn college credit for your work/life experience, thanks to Mid-State’s Credit for Prior Learning services. This process includes taking a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) to “show what you know.”
The type of assessment for each PLA has been determined by college faculty. The fee for each is set by the state. Check out the list of courses with a work/life experience PLA.
Assessment types and fees:
- Skill Demonstration – Demonstrate a hands-on skill with an instructor: $90
- Portfolio or Extended Response – Submit documents proving your mastery of the course competencies, or take an extended-response exam with essay questions or advanced problems: $90
- Challenge Exam – Take an automatically graded multiple=choice test: $50
- Any combination of the above: $90
