Mid-State Technical College names Brigitta Altmann-Austin dean of Wisconsin Rapids Campus and Schools of Applied Technology and General Education

Dr. Brigitta Altmann-Austin was named dean of Wisconsin Rapids Campus and Schools of Applied Technology and General Education at Mid-State Technical College in July. 

Altmann-Austin joined Mid-State in July 2023 as the dean of General Education. In this role, her responsibilities included overseeing a wide array of courses and faculty, ensuring high-quality education for all students. She will continue this work in addition to leading the Wisconsin Rapids Campus and School of Applied Technology.

Altmann-Austin is also a senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Stout where she teaches graduate-level courses in educational administration and leadership in career and technical education.

Prior to working at Mid-State, Altmann-Austin held positions with public school districts across Wisconsin and Illinois, including assistant principal, career and technical education (CTE) coordinator, college and career readiness coordinator and family and consumer science instructor. 

As assistant principal and CTE coordinator for the Stevens Point Area Public School District, she consistently demonstrated her commitment to strengthening local economies through education, a testament to her dedication to preparing students for successful careers. She played a key role in managing youth apprenticeship programs, aligning CTE curricula with state standards, and securing significant grant funding to support manufacturing and advanced machining initiatives.

“Dr. Altmann-Austin brings over two decades of educational leadership and an unwavering commitment to our communities,” said Mid-State Vice President of Academics Chris Severson. “I am excited for her to continue to lead the School of General Education and thrilled to see what she can do within the School of Applied Technology as well as supporting the Wisconsin Rapids Campus. She is focused and dedicated, and her expertise, vision and passion for education will undoubtedly lead to continued growth and success for the College and its students.”

In Wisconsin Rapids Altmann-Austin will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and support for all campus operations, including serving as the first point of contact for local business and industry in need of college services. She will provide support and leadership for approximately 35 full- and part-time faculty and staff within the Schools of Applied Technology and General Education. 

“As dean of the Wisconsin Rapids Campus and Schools of Applied Technology and General Education, I’m excited to further my impact on the Wisconsin Rapids community and maintain current partnerships while building new ones,” said Altmann-Austin. “I am committed to ensuring that Mid-State Technical College remains a cornerstone of education and workforce development in the region.”

Altmann-Austin holds an Ed.D. in leadership and career and technical education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where her research focused on the critical role of youth apprenticeship programs in enhancing employability skills and influencing post-secondary career decisions. She also holds a master of science in educational administration and leadership from Lewis University in Illinois and a bachelor of science from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
