Mid-State announces new Early Childhood Professional program
Applications are now being accepted for Mid-State Technical College’s new Early Childhood Professional technical diploma.
The Early Childhood Professional program prepares individuals to work in a variety of settings. Students will learn to support children in learning music, movement, art and social studies, guided by the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. The program’s 27 credits seamlessly transfer into Mid-State’s Early Childhood Education associate degree.
“We recognize the urgent need for skilled workers in the field of early care and education,” said Jill Przekurat, Mid-State Early Childhood Education instructor. “The Early Childhood Professional technical diploma offers an additional pathway for us to help fill this need.”
Students will learn through a combination of hands-on fieldwork in area childcare centers, along with related academic work at the College. The program includes interesting hands-on learning opportunities and practice in an early childhood setting.
“Adding an additional learning opportunity for future educators to receive a degree from a higher-level institute brings great joy to me personally and professionally,” said April Niemi, vice president of Early Childhood Development at CAP Services, Inc. “This new program is an action step that will support communities in working through the childcare crisis by increasing the probability of attracting and retaining qualified staff in the early childhood field. In turn this will enhance the services provided to children and families.”
“We are excited to launch our new Early Childhood Professional program,” said April Hartjes, Mid-State Early Childhood Education instructor. “This program compliments our Early Childhood Education two-year associate degree program and gives students interested in the field of early childhood education more flexibility. The technical diploma will prepare individuals to confidently enter the workforce in just one year.”
