MSTC
provides a professional counseling service which consists of experienced
and certified staff available to assist students applying for admissions
and to support students during their academic program.
Counseling
is a client-centered contact characterized by greater length and
depth than advising contacts. Counseling may involve a series of
contacts during which the counselor assists the student in exploring
attitudes, information/ideas, feelings and personal concerns. Career
counseling assists the student in relating previous school records,
test scores, achievement, aptitude and life experiences to his
or her individual goals or career ambitions.
Counselors
evaluate transcripts and test scores for program admission requirements,
hold academic interviews (when appropriate to help ensure student
success in programs or courses), respond to instructor academic
referrals, evaluate/advise the student peer tutoring program, assist
with student staffing and facilitate the advanced standing process.
All
program students have a faculty advisor available from their academic
division. Faculty advisors help students to register and assist
students in accomplishing their career goals. Faculty advisors are
available during office hours for questions or special help.
