Motorcycle Rider Courses @ MSTC

Registration for 2009 motorcycle rider courses is now closed.
Check back in February 2010 for motorcycle rider course availability & registration dates!

Basic Rider Course   Experienced Rider Course
This is an organized program for beginning and experienced motorcyclists who want to operate their motorcycles safely and efficiently. Experienced and certified rider coaches trained by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation conduct classes. Motorcycles are supplied by local dealerships. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a waiver for the motorcycle skills test for Class M (Motorcycle) Operator's license. The Basic Rider Course (BRC) consists of classroom (6 hours) and "hands-on" range riding experience (10 hours). The classroom portion will be held on the first Saturday listed on the schedule. The hands-on riding sessions will be held on a later Saturday and Sunday or on designated weekdays as noted on the schedule.

The Experienced Riders Course (ERC) is designed for riders who already possess the basic operating skills necessary to maneuver a motorcycle. During this course, riders will hone their mental and physical abilities while riding their own safe, street-ready motorcycles. Exercises will include advance braking and cornering techniques and address the decision making process. Rider Coaches, trained by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, will draw from the student's knowledge and experience while guiding them through this five hour course. Riders are required to utilize their own motorcycles for this course, and they must be insured.

Additional Provisions: Point reduction (three points) is available to those who successfully complete a motorcycle rider course. However, the reduction can only be applied if there are motorcycle violations on the record and the reduction must be on the record prior to the conviction date for the violation resulting in 12 points or more. A point reduction cannot be applied if a previous point reduction occurred within five years.
