Wisconsin's
Youth Options program provides opportunities for
high school juniors and seniors who are in good academic standing
to take postsecondary courses at technical college that can
count for both college credit and toward high school graduation.
This
program opens the door to greater learning opportunities for
motivated and academically qualified students. Students who
are considering a technical career, wishing to begin college
early, or want to prepare to enter the workforce immediately
after high school graduation, will be interested in the Youth
Options program.
High
school students apply to their school district asking for
approval to take one or more college courses during their
junior or senior year. If students wish to begin college courses
as a high school junior, they must set up their schedule at
the end of their sophomore year in spring. In most cases,
the high school district is obligated to pay for the tuition,
fees, and books for technical college courses unless a comparable
course is offered in their district.
If
a student meets the course admission requirements and prerequisites,
Youth Options students may enroll in any pre-approved technical
college course offered at the postsecondary level. Courses
are available on all three MSTC Campuses; Marshfield, Stevens
Point, Wisconsin Rapids; at the Adams Center; and through
Interactive Television (ITV).
Students
interested in Youth Options should contact their high school
counselor or MSTC's High School Relations Coordinator, Lora Schultz, via email at lora.schultz@mstc.edu or at 715.422.5521.
