Assistive technology is any product that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. A few examples of our technologies include:
Alternate Keyboards allow users who experience difficulty using conventional keyboards to use a computer with a modified keyboard design (one-handed keyboard)
Alternate Pointing Devices allow users who experience difficulty using a conventional mouse access to a computer with an alternative device (trackball)
Calculators allow users to compute mathematical problems (large buttons, speaking calculators)
Closed Circuit Television consists of a monitor and a video camera that allow users to magnify anything placed into the camera's view
Daisy Players allow users to listen to textbooks read onto specially designed CDs
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) allows the user to use a scanner and relevant software to recognize printed text and convert it to editable text on a computer screen (SARA, WYNN, Kurzweil)
Screen Magnification allows users to magnify materials through software (ZoomText, Windows) or hardware (magnifying glass, page magnifier, screen magnifier)
Screen Readers or Speech Synthesizers allow text and other information on a computer screen to be "spoken" (SARA, JAWS, TextHELP, WYNN, Kurzweil)
Spell-Checkers: allow for checking the spelling of particular words (Franklin Spelling Ace, Medical Spell Checkers, Speaking Language Master)
Tape Recorders allow the user to record class lecture or notes and listen to them again at a later time
Voice or Speech Recognition Software allows the user to dictate information into the computer through a microphone and see it appear on the screen (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
